Rooted Pear is officially launching, and as nerve-wracking as it is to put ourselves out there, we want to show a little glimpse of our lives to everyone. We’d like to invite you to take a peek into our kitchen as we test out our recipes, and grow within our friendship and business!
So, here we go. Let's just dive right in…first up: Pastry Baskets!
As with most things in the kitchen, there is a lot of science involved along with a huge heap of intuition! We tried our hands at a couple of different recipes, and even while we were in the process of making our batters, we found ourselves questioning the consistency of the dough, or the flavors that we were combining. We’ve learned that it’s important to trust your gut – if you think that your dough is too thick and too dry, perhaps it really is! Our palates tend to veer a little more towards the salty side; we favor recipes that feature more spices, and really show us their character. After trying out a number of pastry recipes, we decided to shift off course and just create our own. We wound up with lemon poppy seed muffins, an apple spiced cake, coffee strudels, and, in homage to our name, a pear compote. These are some pretty tasty confections!
